Eight people were killed and at least six more were injured — including four police officers — when a gunman opened fire at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning, authorities said.

Oct 27  Known anti-semites, racists and others who harbor extreme anti-social views have little or no trouble obtaining weapons to carry out their warped vendettas. Really almost anyone can be a target. Are more armed guards the best solution?

“Eight people were killed and at least six more were injured — including four police officers — when a gunman opened fire at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning, authorities said.

The suspect has been identified as Robert Bowers, 46, law enforcement officials told CNN.
The gunman made anti-Semitic statements during the shooting, a law enforcement official said.
Social media postings targeting Jews that are believed to have come from Bowers are a focus of the investigation, a federal law enforcement official told CNN.
Shortly before the shooting, in an account on the Gab social media platform that authorities are investigating, the suspect is believed to have posted he “can’t sit by and watch my people get slaughtered. Screw your optics, I’m going in.”
The Gab account has frequent anti-Semitic postings.”

“When asked about whether the nation’s gun laws should be changed, Trump said the synagogue should have had armed security there.”

“You want protection, and they didn’t have any protection, they had a maniac walk in,” Trump said. “The results could have been much better.”

Is Walmart the New OK Corral?

August 26:  Another shootout at the local Walmart.  No one was hurt, but there was certainly plenty of opportunity as folks seem to come to Walmart  quite frequently with guns.  Is it time to arm clerks and managers so they can stop shoplifters in progress? Or will this just forewarn petty criminals that petty crime takes a lot of firepower to pull off these days?

Senseless Cold-Blooded Shooting In Nashville

August 17:  This is the all too common “under the radar” type of gun violence seen on a very frequent basis. Tennessee is a state with loose gun laws.  Would tighter gun laws reduce these deadly incidents?  Or should we encourage anyone out late at night or clubbing, particularly in dangerous neighborhoods, to go armed?

The latest shooting happened early Friday in the parking lot of a club on Gallatin Avenue. Four people, including Bartley Teal and Jaime Sarrantonio, had just left Cobra Nashville about 3 a.m. when two armed men approached them and announced a robbery, police said.

Teal told the suspects he didn’t have anything to give, authorities said. That’s when at least one of the gunmen shot Teal — who was celebrating his 33rd birthday, police said.

The suspects then fatally shot Sarrantonio, according to the Nashville Police Department.

“These are just two senseless cold blooded homicides,” Don Aaron, public affairs manager for the (police) department, said at a news conference Friday.

Aug. 6th Armed bystander stops gunman at crowded Titusville park, police say

Will more armed civilians cut down on casualties when an angry miscreant  wants to shoot up a party?  If so we should encourage more people to carry guns.  Or do we want get guns out of the community so angry or troubled people (men)  can’t go out on a whim and start shooting and bystanders can only hope someone nearby is armed?

Titusville (Florida) Police are investigating a shooting Saturday at a crowded park that was stopped when an armed bystander shot the suspect, a department spokeswoman said.

A man involved in a fight with another person at Isaac Campbell Park left the scene and returned several minutes later, around 5:20 p.m., with a gun and opened fire on the crowd, police spokeswoman Amy Matthews said.

A bystander, who was licensed to carry a firearm, shot the suspect and waited for authorities to arrive, Matthews said. No other injuries were reported, she said.

The gunman, whose firearm was recovered from the scene, was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, Matthews said.

July 30 th A Vietnam vet kills an intruder. Then, cops show up and shoot him dead by mistake

SHOULD POLICE BE DISARMED TO AVOID THESE DEADLY CONSEQUENCES?

In today’s world police are an endangered species and are often deliberately targeted by folks with a definite attitude problem.  Similarly armed miscreants whether burglars, car thieves, drug dealers or folks with domestic partner issues carry guns for a reason.  Shooting an officer of the law is their first line of defense against being detained or deterred from their nefarious missions.  It is not unreasonable to expect armed officers to shoot first and ask questions later when coming upon a gun wielding individual innocent or not in an investigation situation.  It is simple precaution in a dangerous environment to avoid being another innocent officer of the law gunned down.  Unarmed police would not be reassuring either to folks calling 911 needing help from someone with a gun.

The other option is to take more guns out of the hands of civilians. Complete story at this link: https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/03/us/man-mistaken-for-intruder-and-shot-by-police-trnd/index.html
